Sister-Sisters

Sisters Patricia and Carrie Hartigan both became nuns. When taking their vows, Carrie took the name Sister Carmelita. Patricia is also known as "Old Sister Patricia" as there is a "Young Sister Patricia" in the family, who is presently in her 80's.

Sister Patricia entered the Sisters of Saint Martha while Sister Carmelita entered the Sisters of Mercy. Sr. Carmelita was a Mother Superior and Administrator of St. Claire's Hospital in St. John's when she died of cancer in 1954 at the age of 50. Her picture is on the hospital "wall of fame" of Administrators.
